About Southend-on-Sea

Southend is on the up. In the past few years we have seen huge investment from a number of varied sources, and this process is continuing apace.

Nestling on the south facing banks of the Thames Estuary, just a 50 minute train journey from London (We have two rail lines, with the C2C operated Fenchurch Street route having won many plaudits for its comfort and reliability), Southend benefits from the increasing prosperity of its’ commuter town status.

In recent years Essex University has expanded into Southend, bringing significant regeneration of our town centre. Superb contemporary-style new facilities have been constructed including study centres, campus’s and accommodation. This has had a beneficial effect on our expanding High Street shopping facilities, adding a new vibrancy and an influx of new retailers. Southend has comprehensive shopping opportunities, but the dedicated shopaholic can swiftly travel to the nearby Lakeside, Blue Water and Stratford nationally known retail centres.

Southend airport (Or London Southend, as it is now known) has been purchased by a major national logistics company (Stobart) who have expended vast sums on extending the runway, a new control tower, new terminal buildings, a large hotel, and the addition of a dedicated station on the Liverpool Street line. Easy Jet provide a swiftly expanding choice of routes to European destinations such as Barcelona and Palma. Meanwhile, Hotel chains are revitalising our existing hotel stock or adding entirely new alternatives.

Southend is best known for its lengthy and varied seafront. Several projects have improved various parts of the esplanade areas, adding new beaches and attractions, and we are looking forward to the completion of an impressive project to upgrade the West Cliffs gardens which will incorporate a semi sunken museum building to display the “Saxon Kings” items recently excavated locally.

Everywhere you look in the Southend borough, you will find exciting improvements – from the unique and sought after new Garrison seafront development in Shoebury ( Including the provision of significant area of new parkland) to the establishment of the European-reminiscent “café culture” centre of Leigh Broadway.

The future is bright for Southend, and any property purchase is likely to prove a very worthwhile investment.
